A vocal take drifts flat on the last word of a chorus. You drop Xpitch onto the channel, flip it into Realtime mode, and drag the Strength knob until the note locks without sucking the life out of the performance. That’s what this plugin is built for — fast pitch decisions that don’t derail a session.

The plugin covers two distinct workflows. Realtime mode keeps latency low enough for tracking or live monitoring, while HQ Mode is tuned for offline rendering after you’ve got the take. Both respond to the same core controls: Strength sets how hard the correction grabs the note, and Sustain lets you decide whether held notes breathe naturally or flatten into a locked pitch. A wet/dry Mix fader is right there on the faceplate, so parallel processing doesn’t require extra routing. The format spread is solid — AU, VST3, and AAX 64-bit — and the binary runs native on Apple Silicon, which keeps render times down on M-series machines.

Crash Fixes When Switching Modes Mid-Session

Version 1.5.2 didn't rewrite the plugin, which is exactly the point. The 1.5.1 cycle chased down a handful of crashes that could surface when switching between Realtime and HQ Mode mid-session — the sort of thing that would beachball Logic for five seconds right before a client walks back into the room. Those are gone now. General optimization work also tightened up the GUI response on older Intel machines where the metering could get sluggish with the plugin window open during playback.

Also fixed: a rare timing hiccup in the AAX build that could drift sync by a few samples after looping a section in Pro Tools. If you bounced stems from a session running the older build, you might have caught a subtle flam on the first transient after a punch point. That's sorted.

Where It Lands Among the Competition

Put Xpitch next to Antares Auto-Tune Pro and the difference in philosophy shows fast. Auto-Tune gives you graph mode, Flex-Tune, throat modeling, and a MIDI-controlled target pitch lane. Xpitch gives you a handful of knobs and gets out of the way. For a producer cutting vocals on a deadline, the simpler interface means fewer trips to the manual. Auto-Tune still wins when you need surgical note-by-note redraws; Xpitch covers the 80% of sessions where you just need the take to sit in tune without the interface becoming a second project.

Against Waves Tune Real-Time, the formant control puts Xpitch ahead for sound design. Waves locks formant to pitch correction automatically; Xpitch keeps them independent, so you can pull a vocal up a minor third and keep the throat resonance intact — or unlink them entirely for a gender-shift effect that doesn't sound like a cartoon. The tradeoff is that Waves includes a built-in keyboard for setting the key and scale, while Xpitch assumes you already know what key the song is in.

Tracking Slapback Traced to Buffer Size, Not the Plugin

The most common stumble is Realtime mode not feeling zero-latency. That's almost always a host buffer issue, not the plugin. If you're tracking through Xpitch and hear slapback, drop your DAW's buffer to 64 or 32 samples. At 128 samples and above, the roundtrip latency stacks past the threshold where Realtime mode feels instantaneous.

Another pitfall: the Strength knob behaves differently depending on Sustain. If Sustain is pulled way down and Strength is high, held notes can warble as the algorithm fights between the natural drift and the correction target. The fix is to bring Sustain up until the warble stops, then back Strength down if the result sounds too rigid. Treat those two controls as a pair and you'll hit a usable sound faster.

On some Apple Silicon machines running the AU version in Logic, the plugin window can appear blank on first insert. Closing and reopening the window brings it back every time — it's a known redraw quirk tied to Metal rendering, and the nuro audio xpitch mac full version builds since 1.5.1 have minimized how often it triggers. If you hit it, a quick close-open cycle sorts it.

Questions I actually get

What host formats does Xpitch support on Mac?

It ships as a 64-bit AU, VST3, and AAX plugin, covering Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Pro Tools, and most other major DAWs on macOS 10.13 and above.
