Version 9.0.5 runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs under macOS 12.6 or later. The package remains a visual effects backbone for multi-host editors who jump between Final Cut Pro, Premiere, After Effects, and DaVinci Resolve.
Rolling Your Own Suite? Manage Every Filter Here
Editors who build their own looks from stacks of generators, filters, and transitions. The platform manages the whole library and lets you audition effects before committing them to a timeline.
The Bridge Between Developer Code and Your Final Cut Timeline
Between the plugin developer and your NLE. FxFactory Pro connects installed effects to the host app through FxPlug, handles preview and final render, and gives you a central panel for browsing what you own.
Can You Build Without Code?
Yes. The creation tools inside the package let you combine parameters and shaders visually. You tweak sliders, not scripts, and the Pro Pack effects work at 16 or 32 bits per channel for motion graphics.
Search "Mask" to Surface Every Alpha Channel Effect
The search field in the FxFactory manager window filters by effect name, but it also catches tags and categories you may not have noticed. Type "mask" and you see everything with an alpha channel option, not just generators literally named "mask."
Holding Option while dragging a plugin onto a clip in Final Cut Pro applies it as an adjustment layer instead of baking it directly into the footage. Small thing, huge difference when you need non-destructive previews across multiple clips.
Right-click any installed effect and choose Reveal in Finder. The system opens the exact plugin bundle location. Useful when troubleshooting a render glitch or copying an effect to another machine manually.
The registration panel has a "trial mode" toggle that resets the clock on select commercial plugins without reinstalling anything. It sits quietly in the sidebar—most people scroll past it for weeks.
Set Processing Bit Depth Before Your First Render
Launch Final Cut Pro, drop a generator on a fresh project, and open the FxFactory overlay. Immediately check the Processing Bit Depth setting under the gear icon. Pro Pack effects default to 16-bit, but if your timeline runs 32-bit in Resolve or After Effects, switch it now instead of troubleshooting banding later.
Next, visit the Updates tab. The manager scans installed plugins and flags anything out of sync with the current build. Version 9.0.5 tightened the FxPlug layer, and a handful of older free effects need a one-click refresh to avoid stuttering during timeline scrubs.
If you keep an external drive for media caches, go to Preferences and point the Plugin Support Files path to that volume. FxFactory stores thumbnails and preview renders there, and they add up fast on a 256 GB internal SSD.
One App for Hundreds of Effects Versus a Single Trick Like Flares
motionVFX mFlare 2 gives you a beautiful lens flare toolkit, but it ends at flares. FxFactory Pro wraps hundreds of effects across categories into one panel. mFlare does one trick extremely well; FxFactory is the whole drawer.
MotionVFX mO2 is a standalone titling and glitch effects suite. The interface is polished, the templates are sharp. But it lives in its own ecosystem. FxFactory plugs directly into the FxPlug pipeline, so every effect talks to Motion's parameter system natively. You animate a glow intensity with keyframes in the Final Cut inspector instead of learning a separate control surface.
Coremelt Complete bundles transitions and color tools in a single installer, much like FxFactory's free starter set. The difference is expandability. Coremelt stops at what ships in the box. FxFactory lets you add commercial packs later without switching managers. One panel, one update checker, one render engine.
For someone pulling shots across three host apps in a day, FxFactory's multi-host registration is the quiet killer. Install once, and Resolve sees the same Chromatic Aberration filter that Premiere and Final Cut just rendered. The other tools often lock to a single NLE family.
Drag "Block Glitch" onto a Basic Title for Instant Texture
Drop a text generator onto a new project in Final Cut Pro. Open the Titles browser, select Basic Title, and type your headline. Now open FxFactory and search for "data glitch." Drag the Block Glitch filter onto the title clip.
Jump to the Video inspector. Under Block Glitch, set Block Size to 32 and Glitch Probability to 0.4. Keyframe Probability from 0.8 at the clip start down to 0.1 after one second—the heavy digital breakup resolves into a clean logo lockup.
Add a second effect layer. Find "Scanlines" in FxFactory and apply it. Drop the opacity to 30% and set the scan frequency to match your timeline frame rate. The combination reads as CRT degradation without burying the title text.
Now switch to Motion for the finishing pass. The FxFactory effects applied in Final Cut transfer through FxPlug, so open the project in Motion and you will see both glitch and scanline parameters live. Add a subtle camera shake from the FxFactory Distortion category, tie its intensity to a single slider, and publish that slider back to Final Cut Pro. Now you adjust the entire composite from one control in the NLE timeline.
Where FxFactory Connects to Everything Else
FxFactory writes its thumbnails as standard PNG sequences in a folder macOS indexes for Spotlight. Type an effect name like "Light Sweep" into a Finder window search bar and the preview pops up before you launch the host app. Handy when you are storyboarding and want to confirm an effect exists without opening Final Cut.
The FxPlug architecture means Motion's parameter publishing works in both directions. Build a template in Motion with FxFactory filters, publish a few dials, and that template shows up in Final Cut's generator browser with live sliders. No round-tripping.
After Effects users get a bonus: FxFactory installs a plugin bridge that talks to Adobe's effect manager. The same Chromatic Aberration or Prism filter you use in Final Cut appears under the Noise Industries submenu in After Effects. Parameter names stay consistent. If a client says "make the edge blur tighter on the AE comp," you adjust the same slider label you remember from the Final Cut version.
DaVinci Resolve integration via OpenFX keeps the render path GPU-accelerated on Apple Silicon. The Mac's Metal framework handles the heavy lifting, and FxFactory's 32-bit pipeline matches Resolve's color processing. Grading through a colorista pack while a light-leak effect runs at full float depth means no quantization noise in the shadows.
QuickTime and Compressor workflows benefit indirectly. Apply FxFactory effects inside Final Cut, export a ProRes master, and batch-encode H.264 deliverables in Compressor. The effect renders bake into the master file at full resolution, so the compressed versions carry every pixel of the glitch, glow, or film grain you intended.
FxFactory 9.0.5 (build 8654) covers Apple Silicon and Intel Macs in one package. Also worth knowing: this build installs without disabling SIP.
