This one is strictly for Intel Macs — a 64-bit x86 build that landed on November 14, 2019. Pendulo Studios and YS Interactive never shipped an Apple Silicon native version, so plan accordingly.

Inspect Crime Scenes, Connect Clues, Shape the Story

Blacksad: Under the Skin pulls you into a dark corruption case twisting through New York’s criminal underworld. The gameplay stitches together crime-scene investigation, environmental puzzles, quick time events and branching dialogue trees. What you say and which leads you chase shape character relationships and steer the ending. It’s a slow-burn detective experience, not an action brawler, and the jazz soundtrack keeps the mood smoky and tense.

Face Buttons Drive Choices, Keyboard Handles the Pinboard

Expect a controller-friendly layout — analog stick for movement, face buttons for choices and context actions. Keyboard and mouse work fine for investigation segments where you examine clues and connect deductions on a pinboard. Frame pacing leans on your Intel Mac’s discrete GPU. The hand-drawn comic aesthetic means you’re not pushing polygons hard, but render resolution matters more than you’d think during the cel-shaded cutscenes.

Questions You’ll Probably Ask Before Installing

Does it run on an M1 or M2 Mac? Rosetta 2 handles the translation, and performance lands somewhere between respectable and slightly stuttery during the denser crowd scenes. The machine I saw it on — a 2024 M4 Mac mini under Rosetta — held 60 fps most of the time, with occasional dips when the camera swept across a rainy street full of NPCs. Not native, but perfectly playable.

How long is the story? A first playthrough sits around 10 to 12 hours if you poke into side conversations and sniff out the optional character threads. A second run through different dialogue branches trims that by a few hours but lands a noticeably different finale.

Is the comic-style art hard to read? The cel-shaded look reads clearly in motion, though the palette leans into deep browns, navy blues and amber streetlights — very much a 1950s noir comic. If your display sits near a bright window, crank the brightness up a notch. The UI text scales politely, so no squinting at dialogue options.

Does it demand a discrete GPU? The box says Intel x86-64, and integrated graphics from the Haswell era will choke. Anything with Iris Plus or a Radeon Pro from 2016 onward handles the art style without turning the fan into a jet engine. The cel shading isn’t heavy, but the real-time lighting in the club scenes and back alleys asks for a little muscle.

The Boxing-Gym Save Corruption Is Finally Gone

Build 1.0.4 (36128) fixed the save-corruption gremlin that used to bite during the boxing-gym chapters. Before the patch, quitting mid-cutscene occasionally nuked progress back to the previous act, which stung hard in a game where choices ripple forward. The fix is quiet — no menu flash, no version splash — but chapter transitions now checkpoint cleanly.

The voice-language switching menu also stopped misbehaving. Earlier builds would reset to Russian audio after a scene reload if you had picked English or German in the settings. Now the selection sticks across sessions.

On the rendering side, the patch tightened up a handful of depth-of-field passes during close-up dialogue. Backgrounds behind characters no longer shimmer when the camera racks focus, which mattered more than you’d expect in scenes built around a single held expression.

Eight-Second SSD Loads, No Mid-Dialogue Hitches

Load times between scenes hover around eight to twelve seconds on an internal SSD. Spinning rust pushes that past twenty, so install it on something fast. Once a scene loads, streaming is invisible — no mid-dialogue hitches or texture pop-in, even when the camera whip-pans to a new angle.

Memory pressure stays low. The process idles around 2.1 GB of RAM and rarely climbs past 3.4 GB during the most asset-dense interiors. That leaves plenty of headroom for screen recording or reference notes if you’re pulling clips for a blacksad under the skin mac torrent edit session alongside the game.

Stability is rock-solid on the fixed build. Four hours straight without a crash, and the quick time events never dropped input. The only roughness I noticed was a half-second audio desync in one late-game flashback — just enough to notice, not enough to ruin the moment. Save often anyway; the story earns a second look, and having clean chapter bookmarks makes branching replays feel less like a chore.
